Al has always struggled to feel comfortable in her own skin. She is unsure of herself and finds it difficult to open up. When her best friend, and roommate, announces that she’s moving out, Al’s initial reaction is panic. For the first time, she’s on her own. But she's determined to embrace this change, which is how she winds up in a house with a bunch of strangers she found on the internet. It’s around this same time that she meets Dean. He’s charming, older, and successful. Although Al fears he’s out of her league, there is an undeniable connection between them. Can Al take control of her life and get the courage to go after what she wants?

Dean seemingly has it all. He owns a successful restaurant in Chicago and can get any woman he wants. But Dean is plagued by self-doubt and has issues overcoming some of his past demons. He’s a cynic at heart and detests the idea of a committed relationship. He doesn't want to go past surface level with anyone. That all changes when he meets Al. He recognizes another wounded spirit, and he finds her easy to open up to. Despite his friends begging him not to hurt her, he finds he can't stay away from her.
